ISO 17025:2005 is the leading international laboratory quality management system standard.  ISO 17025:2005 is compatible with ISO 9001:2000.
ISO 17025 is simple and easy to understand and connects quality management systems to all other laboratory processes.
New requirements include continual improvement of the quality management system and improved communication with the customer. The Technical Requirements of the 2005 revision are virtually unchanged.

  
 

For laboratories already ISO 17025 accredited, there is a two year transition period to meet the requirements of the new standard.  Accredited laboratories may require only minor revisions to their existing quality management systems.
Formerly known as Guide 25, ISO 17025 is a standard for General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. Guide 25 was published in 1990 as internationally agreed set of quality system requirements applicable to laboratories who perform calibration and/or

 
testing services. It was superseded in early 2000 by ISO/IEC 17025 which will form the basis for laboratory accreditation in the future.
